UT Arlington is currently in first place of the Sun Belt Conference, and is trying to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks are 19-6, and earned another victory last night against Arkansas Little Rock.
Kevin Hervey is leading the Mavericks in points and rebounds with 16.7 points and 8 boards per game. Jalen Jones and Erik Neal are also averaging double figures, and Neal leads the team in assists with almost 7 dimes a night. All three guys have proven to be legitimate long ball threats, and they’re all hitting around 35% of their three point attempts.
UT Arlington suffered a close loss early this season on the road against Arkansas, but the Mavericks biggest win came on the road when they topped Saint Mary’s 65-51. The Mavs are 9-3 in Sun Belt play, and have a half game lead in the standings.
The Mavs have two tough road games against teams chasing them in the standings. The Mavericks are at Georgia State on Saturday, and then have the quick turnaround with another road game against Georgia Southern. Both teams are just a half of a game behind UT Arlington. The Mavs close out the season with two home games against South Alabama and Troy, and then go on the road to face Louisiana Monroe and Louisiana Lafayette.
UT Arlington can secure a spot in the big dance by winning the Sun Belt Tournament, but they still have a chance to get an at-large bid if they come up short in the conference tournament.
